Task 3:
Research Three Interesting Careers

Now that you have pin pointed three jobs that best suit your personality and interests you the most, you need to spend some time researching these jobs to find out more about them.  You need to find out such things as job responsibilities, possible salaries, and educational requirements.

To guide you in your research, follow the steps listed below.  Repeat the steps for each career that is to be investigated.

  • Print out a career information sheet
  • Write your name in the appropriate blank as well as the career title being researched
  • Use the career exploration links provided to locate pertinent information.  If these sties do not contain the information you are looking for search the Internet for new sites and/or see if the library has any helpful materials.

Once you have completed a career information sheet for each career, you need to reflect on what you have learned.  You will do this by printing out and answering a Career Research Reflection Sheet .

This sheet will force you to think about

  • What you liked about each job?
  • What you disliked about the jobs?
  • How the jobs relate to each other?
  • How you would prioritize them in a list of future careers?
  • What classes would help prepare for these career choices.

Once you are finished reflecting on your three career choices, place all your research information and reflection sheet into your career folder and proceed to the final task -- writing a letter to the high school career counselor and/or advisor explaining your hopes and dreams for the future.
